    1. Saikhom Mirabai Chanu became the first Indian in over two decades to
      claim a gold medal at the World weightlifting championship, exorcising the ghosts of her
      forgettable outing at the Rio Olympics.
    2. Japan and India have announced an Asia-Africa Growth Corridor, aimed at creating sea corridors
      linking the countries of the Indo-Pacific to Africa. In addition, Japan is cooperating with India in
      third country infrastructure projects such as Iran’s Chabahar Port, Sri Lanka’s Trincomalee port,
      and the possible joint development of the Dawei port along the Thai-Myanmar border.
    3. The 2017 GHI score has India ranked 100 out of the 119 countries listed.
    4. India successfully test-fired Akash, its supersonic surface-to-air missile, with indigenous radio
      frequency seeker from a test range in Odisha.

5. The UAE announced it has formed a new economic and partnership group with Saudi Arabia, separate from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), a move that could undermine the council amid a diplomatic crisis with Qatar.

9. After ‘yoga’ and ‘Nouroz’, Kumbh Mela/ KumbhMela, the largest congregation of pilgrims on the planet, has been listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage under UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation).

10. The 2018 edition of the historic Indian Science Congress will be held at Manipur University, Imphal, in March.
